              SPANISH MEDICAL COMMITTEE.
Minutes of the meeting held at 24, New Oxford St. W.C.1. on July 27th 1938.
Present: - Dr. H.B. Morgan in the Chair.
Lady Hastings, Mr. A. Watson, Mr. T. Blewitt, Dr. J. Wright, Professor J.R. Marrack, Mr. J. Coyne, Mr. R. Calder, Miss N. Adam, Mr. C.H. Norman, Mr. A. Peacock, Mr. G. Jeger.
Apologies for absence were received from:- Mrs. I. Brown, Dr. H. Joules, Mr. N. Wiggins, Lord Faringdon.
1.  Minutes of Meeting held 13th July were confirmed and signed.
2. Matters arising therefrom.
a) Re Ucles.
The Organising Secretary reported that he had discussed with Mr. Holst in Paris the position at Ucles and Valencia.
It was now established without doubt that Mr. Ayres was living near Valencia and that he was not performing any work at Ucles, although this was not mentioned in any of his reports. The financial statement he had sent us was vague and unsatisfactory.
Mr. Holst had paid 5000 pesetas to the hospital on our behalf, and had given Mr. Jeger the receipt signed by the Administrator. Mr. Holst had been asked to inform Mr. Ayres that he must return to England at once to report, otherwise he will be no longer regarded as a member of the Unit, and the Spanish and British Authorities so informed.
This was confirmed, as was the reimbursement of Mr. Holst's money.
Mr. Holst had received a letter from Miss Davson which stated, inter alia, that the Committee is anxious that wherever possible, members of the Unit in Spain should not return to England in a warship. This is not so; the Committee has not at any time made such a decision, and it was agreed Miss Davson and Mr. Holst be informed.
b) Re Miss Addy and Lorry.
The Personnel and Technical Sub-Committee had been going into the matter, with Miss Addy, the representatives of Keith and Boyle, and the Vauxhall correspondence, in which it was suggested that we continue negotiations through Keith and Boyle.
It would appear that that there was some misunderstanding regarding the extent of the discount allowed, and the actual saving on the one vehicle would be only £22/10/0.
It was therefore recommended that in view of the additional services we get from Keith and Boyle, that we purchase the 2 ton lorry through them.
This was accepted nem con.
3. Special Correspondence.
a) Cable from Mrs. Manning, from Barcelona:- "Arrived Safely."
b) Further cable from Mrs Manning:- "Trucks may be consigned to Sanidad. Two nurses and lab. assistant sent (?) to Barcelona. Wire three names immediately."
Letter from Miss Davson dated 16 July dealing with the progress of various personnel in Spain, and asking for Flit. A large quantity had already been sent on the lorry.
d) From Nurse Sharples in New Zealand, asking to be sent back to Spain under our auspices. It would appear that the New Zealand Committee are unwilling to send her there again. It was decided that she be informed that we are not sending nurses out at present.
