              SPANISH MEDICAL AID COMMITTEE.
Minutes of the Meeting held at 24, New Oxford Street, W.C.1.
on August 10th 1938.
Present:- Dr. H. Joules in the Chair.
Lady Hastings, Lord Faringdon, Dr. J. Wright, Mr. Le Gros Clark, Mr. C.H. Norman, Mr. W.A. Peacock, Mr. R. Calder, Professor J.R. Marrack, Mr. G. Jeger.
Apologies for absence were received from:-
Dr. H.B. Morgan, Mr. A. Watson (gone to U.S.A. for 2 months), and Mr. Somerville Hastings (away until early September).
Mr. Le Gros Clark stated that during his absence from recent Meetings he had asked to be excused, but this had not been minuted. This was noted.
1. Minutes of the Meeting held on July 27th 1938 were confirmed and signed, with a note to the effect that on the item re the purchase of the lorry for Ucles, Lady Hastings and Mr. Norman abstained from voting.
2. Matters arising.
a) Lord Faringdon raised the matter of the lorry for Ucles and objected to the decision to purchase it from Keith and Boyle at £22.10.0. more than the offer from Vauxhalls. After discussion it was agreed that the Personnel and Technical Sub-Committee be asked to submit a full report on the transaction.
The Organizing Secretary reported that the lorry had left London for Marseilles to catch a boat to Valencia, with drivers Hall and Wilmot and Nurse Addy, and Motor parts, medical supplies and food to the value of £70.
b) Dr. Joules reported that Miss Penny Phelps had, owing to various difficulties at Hammersmith Hospital, been taken to the Hospital of St. John and St. Elizabeth, where he had seen her twice. After a week there (at a cost to us of £10.10.0.) he had taken her into his hospital (the Central Middlesex County Hospital) from which she discharged herself after a few days.
The Organizing Secretary reported that he had arranged for her to spend a month in Hastings, where she will be the guest of Mr. Vernon Symonds.
A fuller report will be considered by the Personnel Sub-Committee is due course.
c) By cable and by letter Mrs. Manning had informed us that there was no work for Mr. Percy Cohen to do in Spain, and it was therefore decided that he be not sent back there at any rate until her return and complete report.
d) The X-Ray Stand, Grid and Cassette required by Miss King are to be reconsidered on their merits, with other requests.
