SPANISH MEDICAL AID COMMITTEE.
Minutes of meeting held at 24, New Oxford Street, W.C.1. Sept. 7th. 1938.
Present:- Professor J.R. Marrack in the Chair.
Dr. J. Wright, Messrs. T. Blewitt, and J. Coyne, Mrs. Leah Manning.
1. Minutes of meeting held August 31st. were confirmed, after the change of the word "Pesetas" to "Francs" in Minute 2. and signed.
2. Matters arising.
a) All the items contained in the letter from the I.P.C. were endorsed and Professor Marrack was instructed accordingly. He asked that his credentials should be applied for.
b) It was reported that no letter had yet been received from Mr. Rust.
c) It was reported that Mr. Hadden and Mr. Maurice Orbach had taken the Rolls Royce to Blackpool. At this point, the Hon. Sec. reported Mr. Hadden's accident and also that the tour had realised so far, a profit of £233. The question of an Autumn tour with the ambulance was referred to the Organisation Committee.
d) Reported that Mr. C. Hurling is still unwell.
e) Reported that Dr. Saxton's materials had been ordered and that the Secretary was obtaining the refrigerators wholesale through the Shoreditch Borough Council. Professor Marrack suggested that Dr. Saxton be invited to address members of hospital staffs on his work with blood. - Dr. Saxton to be written to on these lines and Prof. Marrack to make the arrangements.
3. Special Correspondence.
a) Apologies for absence were received from Lady Hastings, Dr. Morgan, Mr. Peacock, and Dr. Joules.
b) Letters were received from the Spanish Ambassador and from the Catalan Government delegation on the question of the National Committee for Help to Spain. The Hon. Sec. was asked to see the Ambassador and report to him her conversations with the Sanidad during her recent visit to Spain; a letter to be sent to the Catalan delegation also explaining our position and pointing out that we are mainly concerned with Medical Aid to Spain.
c) Letters were received from Miss Vassie, Rosita, Dr. Bury and Winifred. In regard to Dr. Bury's letter, the Hon. Sec. was asked to see Rosaleen Smythe and clear up the question of her future work in Spain.
The list of materials attached to Rosita's letter was passed and the following suggestions were made in connection with the photographs mentioned in Winifred's letter.
i) That they should be mounted and exhibited in the T.U. Club.
ii) That T.U. and local L.P. branches be informed that the photographs are on view in the Club.
d) The Hon. Sec. was instructed to write to Mrs. Ayres, giving her her husband's new address.
