              SPANISH MEDICAL AID COMMITTEE
Minutes of the Meeting held at 24, New Oxford Street, 14.9.38.
Present:-   Professor J.R. Marrack in the Chair.
Dr. H. Boyde, Dr. J. Wright, Lady Hastings, Dr. S.W. Jeger, Mr. T. Blewitt, Dr. J.A. Gillison, Mr. Le Gros Clarke, Mr. N. Wiggins, Mrs. L. Manning, Dr. H.B. Morgan, Mr. G. Jeger.
1. The Minutes of the Meeting held on September 7th were confirmed and signed.
2. Matters arising.
a)   Mr. William Rust had met the Sub-Committee. Regarding Miss Davson he stated that nothing was known against her and that any impression in Barcelona that she was unreliable was not created by him.    He would write to his successor to correct any misunderstanding that existed.
The matter of the arrest of Messrs. Hunt and Johnstone had been dealt with in a letter he had sent to the Committee from Barcelona.    (This letter has not been received).   He considered their arrest and repatriation would have a bad effect on our work if it were publicised, and in any case Mr. Johnstone was already engaged in useful work and out of our jurisdiction.   Mr. Hunt was being employed as chauffeur to Mr. Rust himself and he considered that we should have referred to him on the matter. He regretted that we had approached the Embassy and so caused official action to be taken by the Spanish Government.
b) The Rolls Royce Ambulance had gone to Blackpool, where every delegate to the Trades Union Congress had received a copy of our pamphlet.   This was being followed up by a letter to every delegate appealing for Trade Union support.
c) Three Refrigerators had been ordered direct from Electrolux.    The discount (10%) was no more than could be obtained through the Shoreditch Borough Council, but in the event of our purchases exceeding 10, the discount would be increased for subsequent orders.
d) The Organizing Secretary had had an interview with Senor Fernandez Shaw, the Spanish Commercial Attache, who had expressed the thanks of his Government for our assistance and hoped that we would continue in the same way as at present.    It was not desired that we work entirely through the C.S.I., but merely that we should address all our supplies to the new " Comite Nacional de Ayuda a Espana " for the use of the Sanidad, instead of direct to the Sanidad as hitherto.
