              SPANISH MEDICAL AID COMMITTEE
Minutes of meeting held at 24 New Oxford Street, W.C.1., on October 12th 1938.
Present: Professor J.R. Marrack (Chairman), Dr. H. Joules, Mr. J. Coyne, Mr. T. Blewitt, Mr. C.H. Norman, Miss N. Adam, Mrs. Leah Manning, Mrs. Isabel Brown, Mr. N. Wiggins, Dr. H.B. Morgan. Dr. J.W. Jeger, Dr. H. Boyde, Dr. J.A. Gillison, Mr. R. Calder, Mr. G. Jeger.
An apology for her absence was received from Lady Hastings.
1) Minutes of previous meeting, held on October 5th, were confirmed and signed.
2) Matters arising.
a) Dr. Joules reported that Nurse Low had written asking for details of her condition, and he had replied giving her the facts.
b) Mr. Harry Adams was unable to attend our meeting until next week, when he would be glad to discuss the Voluntary Industrial Aid.    Mr. C.H. Norman reported that the C.O.S. were making enquiries and Mr. Gillison had instituted enquiries through another party.     It was agreed that discussion on this be deferred until next week.
c) The Organising Secretary reported that Nurses Hathaway and Bowden had left for Ucles and were at present in Marseilles awaiting a boat.
d) In view of the report received regarding the Glasgow Ambulance it was agreed that it be sold for whatever it could fetch.   The Transport and General Workers' Union of Glasgow agreed with this.
The Secretary reported that he was arranging to send some of the goods out on the two ambulances that would shortly be ready, and the remainder would be sent through the C.S.I.
e) The C.S.I., in response to a telephone enquiry, had informed us that they had no news of any developments regarding the accident at Dieppe, which was now in the hands of their solicitors and the Insurance Company.     They would endeavour to get from the police a copy of the statement made by Mr. Charles Hunt.
f) The Repatriation of the British Volunteers.  Mrs. Brown stated that negotiations were being conducted with the Foreign Office.     Their first proposal was to treat the men as distressed Britishers abroad, but under the terms of the Non-Intervention Agreement, they were entitled to better treatment than this.     So far, it has been arranged that they will be repatriated to their homes.     They will be maintained en route, and the regulations regarding papers of identity will be waived.     The Non-Intervention Committee are now being asked to provide clothing for the men.     It is therefore no longer necessary for our Committee to provide any monetary assistance.
In this connection, the C.S.I. had written that they had already provided on our behalf, the fares to England for several of the men on their way through France.     They were
