              SPANISH MEDICAL AID COMMITTEE
Minutes of meeting held at 24 New Oxford Street, W.C.1., on November 16th 1938.
Present: Professor J.R. Marrack,  (Chairman), Miss N. Adam, Mrs. I. Brown, Mr. T. Blewitt, Mr. R. Calder, Dr. Gillison, Dr. H. Joules, Mrs. L. Manning, Mr. A. Peacock.
Apologies were received from Lady Hastings, Dr. H.B. Morgan, Mr. Norman Wiggins, Dr. Joyce Wright.
1) Minutes of the previous meeting, held on November 9th, were read and confirmed.
2) "Food and Freedom for Spain" Conference.   This Conference, at which Mrs. Brown and Professor Marrack represented the Committee, was reported on by Mrs. Brown.     She stated that 545 delegates attended representing 415 organisations. A further Conference of London delegates would be held on Friday November 25th, at Essex Hall.
3) Correspondence.     A letter was read from Rosita Davson concerning the question of Dr. Duran's visit to London.     It was agreed that she should be told that it would be best for the International Red Cross to be asked to invite him, as it would mean greater publicity.
The suggestion of a delegation to Spain consisting of medical men was discussed.     It was agreed that Mr. Calder should approach various persons as to their willingness to participate in this delegation, and that Mrs. Manning should take up the matter with the Embassy.
4) A.E.U. lorries.    It was stated that two A.E.U. lorries would be available on Friday November 18th, and could leave at the end of the following week.
Mrs. Manning reported that our drivers were concerned about their position and felt that if there was to be a rota of them going backwards and forwards to Spain with the ambulance, some payment should be made them.     It was agreed that Dr. Morgan should be asked to find out from the A.E.U. the exact position concerning the lorries, and whether it was likely that a large number would be available, and it was agreed that the position of drivers should then be considered.
5) Report of Personnel and Technical Sub-Committee.
a) Nurse Dorothy Low. It was reported that she had agreed to go into an English sanatorium, as the expenses of living in a Swiss sanatorium were too high.     It was agreed that Dr. Jeger be informed.
b) Nurse Madge Addy.     It was reported that she was leaving Ucles and was expected home very shortly.
c) Heston Spain Committee Motor-cycle Ambulance Unit.    It was agreed that we make the purchases for the first-aid outfit on behalf of the Committee.
d) Lighting Sets.    It was stated that Dr. Jolly and Mr. Harry Evans had submitted information re these, the G.E.C. quotation being £74.     It was agreed that further information should be obtained.
