SPANISH MEDICAL AID COMMITTEE
Minutes of meeting held on the 11th January 1939 at 24 New Oxford Street, W.C.1.
Present:    Dr. Morgan (Chairman), Professor J.R. Marrack, Dr. H. Joules Mr. Le Gros Clark, Lord Farringdon, Mr. R. Calder, Mrs. I. Brown, Mr. J. Coyne, Mr. C.H. Norman, Dr. J. Wright, Mrs. L. Manning, Dr. H.C. Boyde, Dr. S.W. Jeger, Mr. N. Wiggins, Mr. G. Jeger.
Apologies were received for absence from Miss N. Adam and Mr. W. Lockyer.
1) Minutes of the meeting held on the 4th January were confirmed and signed.
2) Matters arising:
a) The January Bulletin, containing the Balance Sheet, is being circulated.
b) It is understood that several of the nurses are keeping in touch with Nurse Low.
c) Dr. Morgan reported that he was pursuing the matter of free copies of the British Medical Journal for Spain.
d) Re Mr. Boulka, the Organising Secretary reported that the Home Office had stated that permission for Mr. Boulka to enter England has been refused as he had no means and would be seeking work in this country.     Unless someone could be found to accept responsibility for him here, it did not seem likely that this decision would be reversed.     The Home Office were prepared to listen to representations from anyone interested.
The child was now in the care of Mr. Boulka's brother-in-law, who had stated that in view of the heavy medical expenses he had recently to bear, he would welcome some financial assistance.     He had received no money from the C.S.I. for the past six weeks, but was quite prepared to accept responsibility for the care of the child, at any rate for the time being.
It was agreed that we grant Mr. Wallace £5.0.0. and communicate with Mr. Boulka regarding the possibility of him staying with relatives in this country end making a further application on different grounds.
e) The goods for the next convey were being purchased and the Southampton Labour Party had offered to buy an Electro-Magnet for £73 in memory of three of their members killed in Spain. This had accordingly been ordered in Paris as before.
f) Arrangements for the Reception at B.M.A. House were well in hand and Dr. Boyde reported that the B.M.A. were very helpful.
3) Special Correspondence:
a) An offer was received from a doctor in Burnley to manufacture Novocain, but after discussion it was decided that since he has no means of finding out the details of this preparation we decline the offer with thanks, as the process of manufacture is unknown to us.
b) From the V.I.A. West London Group, stating that they had purchased an L.C.C. Talbot Ambulance which was being reconditioned and asking advice as to stretcher equipment etc. The Organising Secretary stated that he had asked one of our engineers returned from Spain to inspect this and a report
