              SPANISH MEDICAL AID COMMITTEE
Minutes of meeting on the 1st February 1939 at 24 New Oxford Street, W.C.1.
Present: Lord Faringdon (Chairman), Mrs. Manning, Mr. Blewitt, Mr. Lockyer, Miss Adam, Mr. Le Gros Clark, Mr. Norman, Mr. Wiggins, Professor Marrack, Dr. Jeger, Dr. Gillison, Mr. Jeger.
Apologies for absence were received from:-   Dr. Boyde, Dr. Joules, Mr. Calder, Mr. Coyne, and Mrs. Brown.
1) Minutes of meeting held on the 25th January were confirmed and signed.
2) Matters arising:
a)   A letter had been received from Mr. Boulka stating that he had made a further application for permission to enter England.     His brother-in-law Mr. Wallace had also written giving details of the care of the child.  It was agreed that the Organising Secretary should see Mr. Wallace and get fuller details.  10/- a week for 4 weeks
b)  Double substance marquees were not made normally, but a separate fly-sheet could be manufactured if desired.     This would cost almost as much as the original marquee and would take about three weeks to have made.     It was agreed that no action be taken.
c)    About 80 people attended the Reunion of Unit members. A further 20 who had accepted the invitation had not turned up. Although the early part of the function was somewhat overshadowed by the depressing news from Spain, it was generally agreed that the function was a success and was worth while.
d) Mr. Hole had advised us that he was communicating with the French lawyer regarding the Dieppe accident on the lines suggested.
e) After great difficulty owing to the frontier roads being blocked with refugees, the two lorries laden with food and medical material had succeeded in crossing into Spain, and had reached Figueras. The drivers had assisted with help for the refugees at the frontier and had flown back on Monday last in order to accompany a fresh convoy which had left on the following day.
This new convoy consisted of the A.E.U. lorries which, it had been ascertained, would be welcomed in Catalonia together with three new lorries purchased by ourselves.  In collaboration with the National Joint Committee those five lorries were filled with milk, blankets, bandages, cotton wool, morphine, cod liver oil and malt, soap, surgical spirit, iodine, lysol, three marquees and surgical instruments.
The decision to send out this convoy was confirmed only on Saturday, and it left on Tuesday, in the charge of Mr. Poole, with 25 tons of material which had been bought during that period. 
3) Special correspondence:
a)   From the British Medical Journal, stating that on further consideration they had agreed to place Dr. D'Harcourt on the free list for three months.
b)    From the B.M.A. quoting from a letter received by the Association Professionelle Internationale de Medecins from Dr. Perez of Madrid, in which he appeals for food to be sent out for doctors there.     It was decided to send parcels of food to the value of £10 for doctors in Madrid through the National Committee for Aid to Spain.
