              SPANISH MEDICAL AID COMMITTEE.
Minutes of Meeting held at 69 Gt. Russell St., W.C.1. on July 19/1939.
Present:
Prof. J.R. Marrack in the Chair.
Dr. H. Joules, Mr. C.H. Norman, Dr. H.B. Morgan, Dr. S.W. Jeger, Miss Madge Addy, Mr. G. Jeger.
An apology for his absence was received from Lord Faringdon.
1.    The Minutes of the previous meeting held June 28th were confirmed and signed.
2.    Matters arising:
a. The Austrian Self-Aid were now making application for the Durmeyers to enter this country, and Mrs. Kapp had suggested that the matter be left in their hands for the present.
b. The S.M.A. had been unable to assist in the case of Sara Schauer but had suggested trying the International Students Service.      Details had accordingly been sent there.
c. Grants to Refugee Doctors.
Dr. Duran was receiving £4-10-0 per week (Total received £21-10.)

It was agreed that payments be continued at the above rates; the matter to be again considered at the next meeting.
3.    Special Correspondence.
a. From Mr. Binford Hole, enclosing a final receipt from the Insurance Co. in connection with the Dieppe Case and a bill from the French solicitors for £7 for their costs which, Mr. Hole stated, they were prepared to reduce to £5 in view of the circumstances.   After consultation with Dr. Morgan their account had been paid, so that we are now completely free of the consequences of the Dieppe accident at a cost of £13-13-6.
b. An appeal for financial aid and for assistance in getting to England had been received from the N.J.C. on behalf of Dr. Antonio Ros, a Spanish refugee in Paris.    Mrs Manning had authorised £2 to be sent to him, which had been acknowledged. Dr. Ros gave the name of some friends in Leeds who had helped him out of the Camp in Algeria,
It was agreed that the grant of £2 be confirmed, that enquiries about Dr. Ros be made from the people in Leeds and from the C.S.I. in Paris, and that the latter be asked to pay him a further £3 if they find him genuine.
c. British Cttee for Refugees from Spain forwarded various items in connection with the medical care of refugees,
1) A bill from the L.C.C. for £24-17-6 for treatment up to June 17th of Victor Paches Gallen, an inmate of Friern Hospital.
It was agreed that we ask the L.C.C. for a reduction in their charges, and that we pay to the Refugee Cttee half the amount of the bill resulting from these negotiations.
2) A refugee, Col. Arce had procured a pair of spectacles for himself at a cost of £3.     He had paid this, but now
