No.
20th December, 1937.
Mr. Walter M. Citrine,
LONDON
Dear Comrade Citrine,
RAY COX MEMORIAL
With reference to your letter of the 17th December, under this heading, I am very sorry that I have not up till now been able to meet the request of the Southampton Trades Council. I can assure you that I have written numerous letters to the responsible people in order to get the photograph. The first time they replied that they could not find the anaesthetic apparatus to fix a plaque to it and photograph it. I had the greatest difficulty in the world in making them understand that there was no anaesthetic apparatus, but a disinfecting apparatus which had been bought instead, and that it was this apparatus which was to be photographed.
In the meantime, the IFTU representative, the surgeon-director and the Spanish comrades dealing with the Onteniente hospital were replaced, and we had to start the whole thing from the beginning again in order to explain what was wanted.
Only two weeks ago, after having sent several reminders, I finally got a reply that they have no photographic films and that these are unobtainable throughout the whole of Spain. We are now sending down films, therefore, before the end of the year, and hope it will be possible to get a photograph by the beginning of January.
