LANTERN SLIDES. A set of over 60 lantern slides illustrating the work of the Spanish Medical Aid in Spain is now available.   Local committees who would like to use these for meetings, please write to Dr. Vaughan, 33, Gordon Square, W.C.1.

GOODS SENT TO SPAIN.  In responce to an SOS message from one of the English nurses at the new hospital 800 pairs of sheets, 800 pillow cases and large quantities of soap have been sent out on our special delivery truck to Spain.  Other necessary equipment such as beds, surgical instruments and condensed foods have also been sent since you received the last bulletin.
GRANEN.   Here is an eye-witness account of the bombing of the English hospital at Granen where our nurses were still working.   Fortunately none were hurt.
"At 11.30 a.m. on October 10th, 1937, Granen was bombed by fascist aviation with resultant destruction of a considerable part of the original English hospital on the Aragon Front.
Between 9 and 10 o'clock in the morning an observation plane circled twice round the village and then withdrew in a westerly direction.   About 11 o'clock 3 three-motored bombers of the type we had seen at Escorial flew over the village en route for some other destination.
At 11.30 a.m. 6 bombers of the type we had seen at Torrelodones,  escorted by about 10 chasers arrived in leisurely style at a fairly low altitude over the village of Granen.    The people took what refuge was available before the bombs began to drop.  Some 20 - 30 were dropped of which about a dozen exploded.   The planes then turned and flew over the village a second time dropping the same number roughly. They then made off in a westerly direction.
The damage done was greater than usual; the aim of the bombers has improved.  The auto park, the station, and the old English hospital were all hit.   In the station an autovia, that is, a motor coach that goes by rail, which was waiting to evacuate our sick and wounded was set on fire and destroyed.
