INTERNATIONAL BRIGADE.
I feel in a great difficulty about the position of the dependants of certain men who have lost their lives fighting with the International Brigade in Spain. As you know, the International Solidarity Fund, through which we send help to the workers of Spain, has been used entirely for humanitarian work in Spain itself.
I have now had a communication from a correspondent in Wales who has sent me a statement which is being addressed to various influential people who are interested in the Spanish struggle. He is asking for my help and advice in the matter and states that the Communist Party is responsible for the lads named in the statement, copy of which I attach, for being sent to Spain, but that they reveal a callous indifference to many appeals by the relatives to make enquiries regarding the lads' welfare.
